A spinning top. A child's toy. A honey pot. Some of the many allusions made to the iconic FLW building at 5th Ave and 89th. My take on it? A sequential stacking and positioning of primary forms arranged to create a complex tension/balance between the curvilinear and the rectilinear, the sinuous and the rigid. (HUH?) What moved me the most, however, was experiencing the volume. From standing in the central atrium, the spiraling ramp seemed to undulate upwards towards the expansive skylight, encompassing and embracing the core which - while a void- seemed in itself a tangible mass.
