Hand hewn. It's a phrase I love, and when I come across something that truly qualifies, it delights me even more.
Our roadtrip along the Eastern Sierras wasn't ALL crunchy-granola hardship, due to a headcold that stopped me up like nobody's business, so after experiencing the high-altitude impact upon congested sinus passages, I lobbied for a motel stay rather than more nights on the Thermarest. What we found was a little node of creature comforts in Strawberry, where we got the 'spring special' on a 3 bedroom cabin with a river view! The place was spacious and well appointed*, and I actually felt guilty about not having a truckload of friends along to enjoy the place!
The adjacent Strawberry Inn boasted these lovely doors, with carved - yes! hand hewn! - applique over their basic wood surfaces and aged oak handles to really make the image tactile.
The Inn's artwork was better than their breakfast, unfortunately, but the next time we're in this neck of the woods, we'll be whipping up our own grub in the cabins down the hill, and y'all are welcome to stop in, enjoy the river view, and turn cartwheels in the giant sitting room, with me.

* my one complaint would be the switch-flipped 'gas log' fireplace, which doesn't seem appropriate in such a rural setting, however, once ignited-in-an-instant, I stopped complaining and simply draped myself across the armchair beside it and cracked open my book, and things were juuuust fine.
