The first day that the Pass was open. A winding road, climbing and plunging over the terrain. Beautiful, pristine snow, as far as the eye could see. At about 8000 ft, we could stand it no more, and we stopped at the pull-out, pulled out the snowshoes, and bounded out into it.
And we didn't bother with boots.
The trusty MSR snowshoes worked juuuuuuust fiiiiiiiine with the new KEEN sandals, if I may say so myself.
Although, I admit, the tootsies got a bit numb, after a bit. But the biting cold also numbed the numerous manzanita scratches that covered my shins, so that's the up-side.
