The image makes me think of monotone London, or Detroit. But it's not. It's the view from the computer lab of my office, on a mid-summer morning in SF. By mid-day, the mist will have burned off, and a bright, hot flood of sunlight will illuminate this same scene, until the evening fog rolls in and re-blanches it.
Oddly, I really love seeing these sights - layers of enveloping fog, wrapping and masking elements like folds of tissue paper, waiting to be lifted to unveil their hidden treasure. The treasure in this scene - to me - is the weathered old cooling tower, on it's truss frame support. A glimpse of old-world industry amid the blocks of ever-modernizing curtainwall.
