Not sure what is being mined at these SoCal locations, as seen while flying down for an Easter weekend gathering in a land far hotter than what I'm used to. Steel used to be the area's industry, I'm told, so perhaps this is crude ore mining. The region's principle crop these days is suburban cul-de-sacs - little boxes, little boxes, little boxes made of ticky-tac* - supporting the Distribution Capital of The West.
